Baker & Taylor's New Reno Facility Up And Running Baker & Taylor, Inc.( 09/23/1999 ) The first of Baker & Taylor's facility expansions, part of the company's most aggressive expansion plan in its 171-year history, is complete. All inventory in the Reno, Nev., service center was moved to a facility more than double the previous facility's size. The number of titles of books, videos and music products available to customers for immediate shipment from the Reno facility has doubled from 125,000 to 250,000. In addition, the number of units in inventory increased from 1.8 million to 2.8 million. "This move is a significant step toward our efforts to ship all our products in one box," said Jim Ulsamer, president, Baker & Taylor Retail. "We accomplished this transition without interruption to customers, and we're confident our other expansions will run just as smoothly. With the larger facilities, we can offer not only more selection and better product availability, but we also can increase our customer service levels and efficiencies in filling orders." Three other Baker & Taylor expansion projects are well underway. The relocation of the Somerville, N.J., facility to a larger building in Bridgewater, N.J., is scheduled for completion in mid-October. The new facility is more than twice the size of the current building and is designed to house 300,000 books, video and music titles with four million units in inventory. The construction of an addition to the Commerce, Ga., facility has been completed, and new product is currently being stocked. Expansion of Baker & Taylor's Momence, Ill., service center is scheduled to be finalized in the spring of next year.
