Baker & Taylor's Compass Product Reaches Milestone - 1000th Customer Signs On Baker & Taylor, Inc.( 10/06/1999 ) Compass, Baker & Taylor's web-based management tool for a library's standing order plans, has registered its 1000th customer - Orange County Public Library in Santa Ana, Calif. Compass allows registered users access to Baker & Taylor's Continuation Services Program via the Internet. "The success of Compass has been very gratifying," said Jo Sims, vice president of customer administration for Baker & Taylor. "We've heard extremely positive feedback from customers about the product and continue to update Compass, incorporating customer comments. We are pleased Orange County Public Library chose to use our Continuation Services Program and monitor their Continuation account through Compass." "Compass is a convenient, flexible tool that is a great resource for our library," noted Terry Pringle, acquisitions librarian, Orange County Public Library. "With Compass, we can access and change our Continuations profile while avoiding paperwork and time-consuming phone calls, which were necessary in the past. Any product that allows us more time to devote to our patrons is beneficial." Compass, introduced in July 1998, was the library industry's first Internet-based product dedicated to standing orders for monographic series. Compass allows librarians to modify their continuations profiles, create bibliographic searches, submit claims and develop management reports on-line. The service enables access to Baker & Taylor's entire Continuation Services database.
