Baker & Taylor Adds to Retail Management Team Baker & Taylor, Inc.( 03/09/2000 ) Baker & Taylor, a leading full line distributor of books, video and music, recently hired Janis Durr as vice president, visual entertainment products for Baker & Taylor Retail and promoted Steve Harkins to the position of vice president, audio for Baker & Taylor Retail. Baker & Taylor Retail is a unit of Baker & Taylor, Inc. Durr recently was the president of DSDC, a consulting firm founded in Los Angeles working with entertainment companies nationwide. Prior to her consulting work, she was vice president, distributed video for Uni Distribution (now known as Universal Music and Video Distribution). In her new position, she will be responsible for the strategy, program development and market positioning of all visual entertainment related products, including VHS and DVD rental and sell-through as well as new formats and delivery systems. Durr and her staff will provide support for all retail sales activities including independent retailers, national accounts and fulfillment customers. Harkins has been with Baker & Taylor for 20 years and most recently was the director of sales, audio. In his new position, Harkins will be responsible for the strategy and market positioning of current and emerging audio music products. Like Durr, Harkins and his staff will support retail sales activities for independent retailers, national accounts and fulfillment customers. Both positions are based out of the Charlotte, N.C., headquarters office. Bryan Smith, currently vice president, marketing for Baker & Taylor's entertainment products, has decided to pursue career opportunities outside of the company. Smith has agreed to stay with the company for the next few months to assist in the transition.
